Brentford defender Sepp van den Berg will be sidelined for the opening weeks of the campaign after picking up a groin injury.
The Netherlands international has endured a disrupted pre-season, and Bees head coach Keith Andrews has announced the player will be unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League season opener against Tottenham.
Andrews explained that van den Berg is suffering from a groin problem that has required careful management. The defender’s build-up to the new term has lacked consistency, prompting the club to prioritise his recovery. He will consequently miss the first several matches of the season.
In other news, Antoni Milambo is continuing his rehabilitation from anterior cruciate ligament damage. Andrews indicated that Milambo is trailing his recovery schedule by several weeks, though his recent progress has been encouraging. The midfielder has been taking part in group training for a number of weeks now, sometimes with modifications and sometimes on a full basis, and is advancing well in his recovery.
